People’s Bank of Oak Harbor sponsored a PBY fly-in owned by Bob Dicks of Pacific Flying Boats Ltd. based out of Sidney, B.C., Canada for the annual Maritime Patrol Association’s reunion. The Maritime Patrol Association (MPA) is a non-profit professional organization for the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance community. Founded in 2011, MPA provides recognition and enhances the prestige of the MPR community by harnessing the power and support of their members and the community’s industry partners.

Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Visits PBY Museum

Members of NAS Whidbey’s Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) visit the museum as part of their training in the “Sailor360” history training module. “Sailor360” takes in all enlisted ranks and ratings for training in Navy traditions as well as explaining current Navy policies and events.

WWII Veterans Honor Us With Their Company

During the PBY-Naval Air Museum monthly Speakers Luncheon at the CPO Club. Left to right are Win Stites (93), Neil Stamey(96), Harry Patton(97), George Behrend(99) and the speaker Jack Holder(97).

Jack Holder recounted his WWII experiences which included serving in PBYs at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, Guadalcanal, Midway and in B-24s(PB4Y1s) during the Battle of the Atlantic. This gathering of five WWII Naval aviators was a rare and unique event, especially for the men themselves who had a marvelous time becoming acquainted and sharing stories.

Japanese Students Visit

25 Japanese exchange students from the Oak Harbor Public Schools Cultural Exchange Program visit the museum. Along with viewing the PBY aircraft on display, the students participated in a scavenger hunt and got a chance to meet former astronaut Heidi Piper. The museum hosts groups of all sizes and ages.
