Just under $20,000 at $19,931 in the fourth week of the campaign. We are nearly 80% of the way to the goal of $25,000 of unrestricted funds for operations! Well done to you, our supporters.

As of today, we are at a combined total of $39,862 unrestricted donations plus an equal matching capital donation. HOWEVER, we have to hit that $25 thousand  target to get the match. Two weeks into the PBY-Naval Air Museum’s 2019 Mid-Year Appeal fundraiser, $9255 has been received toward the goal of raising $25,000 of unrestricted funds for operations. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far.

Reaching the $25,000 goal means that the museum will receive a challenge match of $25,000 for the capital account for purchasing land and building a new museum. This graph depicts donations received to date relative to the goal. Effectively, the donations of $9255 to date become $18510 when combined with the matching funds – as long as the $25,000 donation target is met.

During July, the museum will be celebrating its 5th Anniversary at the current location. For the month of July, all admissions at the door will be the retro price of $5. (No other discounts apply – There will be no discount admissions from this website.) This is the admission charged beginning on our official opening day before the plane was moved from to Seaplane Base to the Aircraft Display Area, when admission went up to $7.

Definitely a crowd — Approximately 35 (24 seniors with the rest sophomores and freshmen) paid us a visit recently. The group is the Oak Harbor High School NJROTC, led by Cmdr Vince Quidachay, SWO, USN (Ret.) Senior Naval Science Instructor and Naval Science Instructor AMHC William Thiel, USN (Ret.). “Our goal is to make these kids valuable assets to the nation,” says Thiel. They attempt to accomplish this with studies in Naval Sciences which include naval history, government formation, leadership, dedication and commitment… basically classes in life skills.

US Navy Reserve Force Master Chief Chris Kotz stopped in to visit the very first Force Master Chief MCPO Richard “Dick” Johnson at the Museum recently. The event was video recorded for posterity and other USNR publicity purposes by Master Communication Specialist Second Class Merc Cuenca of Navy Public Affairs Support Element NW (NASWI Detachment).

Naval Air Station Whidbey Island opened its gates on June 22 for an annual Open House. The PBY Museum participants were Mike (Bones) Legere, Osaretin Omofonmwan,  John Love, Stan Prince, Patty Henry, Wayne Hill and Sonny Starks.  Wil Shellenberger supervised coordination.
